Attorneys' Investigative
Consultants. |
 | I have to admit
that when we first opened Attorneys' Investigative Consultants, over
two decades ago, we had a policy of declining investigations of marital
infidelity, child custody and other cases broadly referred to as "Domestic
Matters". We had been misled and intimidated by Hollywood and TV images
of sleazy, transom peeping gumshoes who would do anything for a buck. We
did not want that image! We had heard of the hysterical female and half
crazed male clients that one has to deal with in such cases and we did not
want any part of that! Besides, Nevada was a "No-Fault" state. Adultery
was not grounds for divorce. In fact, the word "Adultery" did not appear
even once in the statute! Who would even want such an investigation? |
 | Not much time went by before I knew I had it all
wrong. A call from a prospective client started this awakening. |
 | The caller suspected her husband of being unfaithful
and wanted him placed under surveillance. I explained to her that she did
not need evidence of his infidelity in order to get a divorce. She said,
"I know that!" And then went on to explain that this was not about the law
-- it was about a momentous decision that would affect her life and the
life of her family, forever. She was contemplating a divorce, but did not
want to take that critical step without being absolutely certain that her
suspicions had a basis in fact! That did not sound sleazy to me and we
took her case. |
 | There are some states that use evidence of
infidelity in divorce courts and we do service those situations. (See
Only in Las Vegas - Marital Infidelity). However, Las Vegas residents
wanting help in such matters have never stopped calling. Almost without
exception, before they called they knew that they did not need evidence of
infidelity in order to get a divorce. In general, these investigations are
needed for three reasons: |
 | Intelligence - The Client needs to know what
is really going on. Important decisions must be made. The Client must have
the facts. |
 | Sometimes the facts are shocking. One Client
retained our services to determine if her husband was having an affair
with another woman, as she suspected. She was only partly right. Actually,
he had two girlfriends and a boyfriend and was "doing his thing" in
supermarket parking lots in broad daylight! |
 | Mental and Emotional Well Being - For most
callers about marital infidelity, their life is spinning out of control.
The thought of an unfaithful spouse is devastating. The thought of a
divorce is terrifying. Often the prospective client has confronted the
spouse, (Something we counsel our clients not to do!) only to
be told that the suspicions of infidelity are not only unfounded, but
allegations of such infidelity are doing irreparable damage to the
marriage! The accuser is often led to believe that he or she has a
mental problem! A professional investigation will separate truth from
lies -- it will separate reality from imagination! |
 | You will note that we counsel our Clients not to
even consider a direct confrontation of a suspected spouse until the
investigation is concluded and the Client has all the facts in hand. To do
so is to step into a "Lose-Lose" situation. |
 | Loser #1 - If the spouse is being unfaithful,
he or she will almost certainly deny it. The allegation, if true, will
only cause the cheating spouse to be more careful in the future. This can
make it a more difficult and expensive matter to investigate than it
otherwise would have been. Further, putting such pressure on the cheating
spouse will only force he or she closer to the person with whom they are
cheating. |
 | Loser #2 - If it is a "bum rap" and the
suspected spouse is being falsely accused, the accuser is indeed doing
grave, perhaps irreparable, damage to their relationship. Remember, not
all persons suspected of infidelity are guilty. That is why we
investigate! |
 | Control - A professional investigation can clear the
air and put the Client in control. The Client now knows the true
facts and the wayward spouse has no idea of what the Client knows.
Remember - Knowledge is Power! |
 | We have had a number of situations in which the
Client has been put into a position of being able to launch a preemptive
strike against an unfaithful spouse who, in anticipation of a divorce, has
started to sequester money and other assets. |
 | We have also been able to provide Clients with
information that was successfully used to save marriages that the Clients
truly wanted to save. One example of these, are situations in which an
investigation reveals that "the other man" or "other woman" with whom the
wayward spouse is involved, is having a second affair unbeknownst to the
wayward spouse! That type of information, if used properly, usually brings
the wayward spouse back home in a hurry. |
 | In one case, we determined that a cheating husband,
wanted to break off an illicit relationship, but could not, because of an
obsessive "other woman". The wife, monitored that activity over an
extended period of time without confronting her husband or giving him any
hint that she knew what was going on. Eventually the "other woman" gave
up. |
 | "Control" sometimes translates to "money". More than
one injured party, armed with the facts of the illicit relationship has be
able to persuade the wayward spouse to agree to a very generous,
uncontested divorce settlement. |
 | Although surveillance is often the best
investigative approach in cases of suspected marital infidelity, it was
heretofore impractical in many cases because it is so time intensive. The
more time investigators spend on surveillance, the higher the cost. As a
consequence, surveillance has in the past often been limited. Now, we are
able to take a new approach. Through the use of ultra sophisticated high
tech equipment we are able to reduce labor costs and are now able to offer long term activity monitoring at a fraction of its former
cost. A budget that could
once pay for a day or two of activity monitoring can now handle weeks! If
you are one who believes, "Trust, but verify!", don't fail to call us! |
